Archaeological Research Institute Maintain Area Trails by Clearing Invasive Species

Learn more at ARI during Indiana Archaeology Month.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The AmeriCorps NCCC North Central Region team Hackberry 3 is working with Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) for the rest of the summer to help clear invasive species to better maintain area trails.

The team helped ARI organize a BioBlitz, which took place at the Guard Archaeological Preserve (GAP) last month.

The BioBlitz helped identify native and non-native species and plants that grow in and around GAP.

Archaeological Research Institute is based in Lawrenceburg and offer students of all ages hands-on opportunities to explore the region’s rich history. The nonprofit organization invites everyone to join in exploring local archaeological sites, help preserve at-risk sites, collaborate in research, and support ARI’s mission to provide accessible, inclusive, and innovative approaches to educational programing.

In addition, September is Indiana Archaeology Month. All month long Hoosier history buffs can meet archaeologists and learn about the state’s fascinating past.

A variety of events for all ages are being offered throughout the state, including a Collecting Knowledge event hosted by the Archaeological Research Institute on Saturday, September 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
