AP Report: Indiana Sports Betting Could Be Up And Running By NFL Season

All of Indiana's casinos have applied to host sports betting, the Associated Press reports.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Indiana’s casinos are preparing to offer sports betting to their customers in time for football season.

A new state law approved this spring allows sports betting to start as soon as September 1, 2019.

The Associated Press reports that all of Indiana’s 13 state-licensed casinos and three off-track betting parlors have applied to the Indiana Gaming Commission to offer sports betting. Most say they expect to be taking bets by the time the NFL season starts on September 5.

The gaming commission is expected to vote August 28 on whether to approve proposed sports betting regulations. A list of sports and events eligible for betting in Indiana was released in July.

Last week, Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg owner Penn National Gaming announced multi-year agreements with leading sports betting operators including DraftKings, PointsBet, theScore and The Stars Group for online sports betting and iGaming market access.

“We’re pleased to be providing the top names in sports betting, iGaming and poker access to our Company’s non-primary licenses to conduct these operations in exchange for a combination of upfront cash and equity, one-time market access fees and ongoing revenue sharing,” Penn National Gaming senior vice president of interactive gaming Jon Kaplowitz said in a statement.

Kaplowitz called sports betting an exciting new growth opportunity for Penn National.

In May, Full House Resorts president and CEO Dan Lee said legalized sports betting in Indiana should benefit Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun over the long-term.

Under the new sports wagering law, gamblers must be age 21 or older. Bettors will be able to place bets using mobile devices after registering at an Indiana casino.
