It was a historic day for Indiana high school sports.

The inaugural IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Tournament was held today at 16 sectional sites across the state.

Locally, three wrestlers were crowned champions in their respective weight classes, while four more qualified for the regional round.

At the Floyd Central Sectional, Switzerland County junior Klaire Redwine (15-1) won the sectional championship at 130 pounds. Redwine won the championship match by fall (0:37).

She will be joined by two Switzerland County teammates at the regional. Miley Stroud placed 4th in the 145-pound bracket, while Payton Stow was 4th at 110 pounds. Stow made history by being in the first ever match at the Floyd Central Girls Wrestling Sectional.

Those advancing from the Floyd Central sectional will compete at the Mooresville regional on January 10.

At Eastern Hancock, Milan junior Kayla Roell (25-1) won her championship match in the 120-pound bracket by fall (0:59). Franklin County junior Lila Westerman is the 170-pound sectional champion, winning by fall (3:33).
