(Versailles, Ind.) - South Ripley High School and the Highpoint Health Physical Therapy Department celebrated the high school receiving the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Safe Sports School 2nd Team Award. To commemorate the achievement, the school was presented with a banner, certificate and congratulatory letter to display. The recognition is good for three years.
To obtain NATA Safe Sports School 2nd Team recognition, high school athletic programs must accomplish a number of goals, including providing safe and well-maintained facilities and equipment; creating an emergency plan; developing injury and illness prevention strategies; providing pre-participation physical examinations; and offering a permanent, appropriately equipped area to treat injured athletes.
Highpoint Health’s Athletic Trainers, who assist with Southeastern Indiana school sports programs, help the schools in obtaining their awards. Working with South Ripley High School is Highpoint Health Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist Assistant Madi Lamppert, LAT/ATC, PTA. To be eligible for an award, a school must submit an application outlining how it is meeting specific criteria during team practices and games.
Attending the ceremony with Miss Lamppert were Ed Brush, MSPT/ATC, Highpoint Health Director of Rehabilitation Services; Jeff Gorrell, South Ripley High School Athletic Director; Rob Moorhead, Superintendent of the South Ripley Community School Corporation and a member of the Highpoint Health Board of Trustees; and Joe Ralston, South Ripley High School Principal.
NATA, based in Carrollton, Texas, presents Safe Sports School Awards annually to qualified high schools across the United States.
