(St. Leon, Ind.) – East Central senior running back Josh Ringer is receiving national attention for his play this season.

On Thursday, SBLive Sports named Ringer to a list of the 20 best student-athletes in the nation during the 2023 high school football season.

Each of the 20 honorees have made major contributions to their team on offense, defense, and/or special teams this season.

Ringer, a legitimate Mr. Football candidate in the state of Indiana, has rushed for 1,825 yards and 36 touchdowns. He’s also caught eight passes for 201 yards and four scores.

Entering Friday’s sectional semifinals matchup with Martinsville, Ringer needs 124 yards rushing to become East Central’s all-time leader rusher. Andrew Wolf has held that distinction since 1994 with 5,708 yards. At 11.3 yards per carry, Ringer is also on pace to break Eric Rosemeyer’s single-season record of 9.5 yards per carry.

Ringer already holds school records for most points scored in a game (36), most points scored in a season (252), rushing touchdowns in a season (39), most rushing touchdowns in in a game (6), and most career rushing touchdowns (91).

East Central (10-0, #1 in 4A) will be at Martinsville (7-3, #13 in 4A) tonight. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.
