EC's Bentley Places 23rd at State Finals; Five Others from SEI Compete

Batesville, East Central, and Milan were represented at the State Finals on Saturday.

(Terre Haute, Ind.) - Six runners from southeastern Indiana competed at the IHSAA Boys and Girls Cross Country State Finals on Saturday. 

The races were held at LaVern Gibson Champions Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. 

Leading the local contingent was East Central sophomore Callie Bentley. She placed 23rd out of 249 runners with a time of 18:19.3. 

Her teammate, freshman Jena Weiler, came in 58th place with a time of 18:58.7. 

The Batesville duo of Lexiyne Harris and Kaylynn Bedel placed 143rd and 165th, respectively. Harris, a sophomore, ran the race in 19:46.0, while junior Kaylynn Bedel finished the race in 20:02.9. 

In the boys' competition, Milan senior Ben Riehle placed 101st out of 250 runners with a time of 16:14.4.

East Central junior Bradyn Hatton placed 174th with a time of 16:40.2.

Carmel won the boys team state championship with an average time of 15:33. Brebeuf Jesuit senior Cameron Todd was the individual state champion with a time of 14:55.5. 

The girls team state champion is Homestead. Indian Creek sophomore Libby Dowty is the individual champ with a time of 17:06.7.
