Burton, Brotherton Set New School Records; Ringer Nearing EC Rushing Record

Is there a better trio of offensive talent in the state?

Josh Ringer, Cole Burton, and Ryan Brotherton.

(St. Leon, Ind.) - The East Central Trojans started their Class 4A State Title defense in grand fashion on Friday night.

The Trojans bounced Shelbyville from the state tournament with a 62-7 win.

In the process, senior quarterback Cole Burton and senior wideout Ryan Brotherton broke two significant school records.

Burton went 6-for-9 for 129 yards and four touchdown passes, giving him 59 for his career. That passes TJ Brown, who held the previous school record for career TD passes with 56.

Two of Burton's four TD passes went to his top target, Ryan Brotherton. The two receiving touchdowns give Brotherton the career record at EC with 29. He entered Friday's game against Shelbyville tied with Dan Hartman for the previous record of 27.

Two significant career records down, and at least one to go with Josh Ringer approaching the school's career rushing record. The Mr. Football candidate ran for 140 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries last week.

Ringer now has 5,585 career rushing yards. He is just 124 yards away from breaking the record of 5,708 yards set by Andrew Wolf (1991-94).

East Central plays at #13 Martinsville on Friday in the sectional semifinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
