(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The kids will get first crack at Indiana’s deer herd this weekend.
The two-day 2018 youth gun season is Saturday and Sunday, September 29 and 30. In addition to following all usual regulations, kids can use any legal gun or bow allowed during other deer hunting seasons.
To participate, licensed children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18. The adult must possess a valid hunting license, unless exempt and may help the youth hunter with calling game. However, the adult may not carry a firearm or weapon, except persons licensed to carry a handgun. Hunter orange must be worn by all hunters during the youth hunt.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says youth hunters may take one buck and one or more does depending on which county they are hunting in.
Indiana’s deer archery season runs October 1 through January 6. Firearm season for adults will be November 17 through December 2. Muzzleloader season is December 8 through 23.
