Woman Saved From Submerged Vehicle By ISP Versailles Trooper

The accident occurred Friday on State Road 11 near Seymour.

(Seymour, Ind.) - An Indiana State Police Trooper saved a woman from a submerged vehicle.

Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post was assisting another trooper on Interstate 65 with the reconstruction of an accident around 3:00 p.m. on Friday when he received a call about an accident with possible injuries on State Road 11 near Seymour.

When Wheeles arrived at the scene, he found a car partially submerged in water and sinking.

The driver, Megan Fleetwood, 23, of Jeffersonville, was trapped in the vehicle.

Wheeles immediately went into the water and used a hammer to bust out the back window of the car, which allowed him to pull Fleetwood out of the car to safety.

During the rescue, Wheeles suffered injuries to his hand and arm. He, along with Fleetwood, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
