(Undated) – Indiana is being touted as a more hard-working state than neighboring states, according to a recent study.
WalletHub has released its 2020 Hardest-Working States in America findings.
The person finance website ranks Indiana as the 19th hardest-working state. Of neighboring states, Kentucky had the next best ranking at 38th overall. The Commonwealth is followed by Illinois (40th), Ohio (46th) and Michigan (47th).
The top 5 hardest-working states are North Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming, Texas and Nebraska, according to the report.
Rhode Island, New Mexico and West Virginia joined Ohio and Michigan in the bottom 5.
To determine the rankings, WalletHub compared all 50 states across 10 key indicators, ranging from average workweek hours to share of workers with multiple jobs to annual volunteer hours per resident.
According to the World Economic Forum, American workers put in an average of nearly 1,780 hours per year as of 2019. That’s about 390 hours per year more than Germans work, but about 360 fewer than Mexicans do.
In addition, the average American only used 54 percent of their available vacation time.
