VIDEO: Dearborn County School Bus Crash Video Released

The video released Tuesday shows the moment of impact between a school bus and a stopped garbage truck.

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - A video of a March 6 crash between a stopped trash truck and a school bus carrying South Dearborn Community Schools students has been released.

The stunning video from the side of the truck shows just how close a Rumpke trash truck driver was to being seriously injured - perhaps even killed - as the school bus was unable to stop or avoid the collision on State Road 350. Nearly two dozen students and both drivers were taken to area hospitals following the wreck.

A second angle from a camera on the rear of the garbage truck shows the truck driver moving from the rear of the truck just moments before the impact. Within seconds, witnesses who stopped at the crash scene are scene approaching the school bus and helping children out of the bus.

The video was acquired from the Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor's Office through a Freedom of Information Act request.

On Tuesday, prosecutor Lynn Deddens announced that the school bus driver would not be criminally charged for causing the crash. However, the driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions, the most prominent of which was determined to be sun glare in the driver's eyes.
