VIDEO: Armed Robbery Stopped By Indiana Men On Spring Break

Two of the men involved in foiling the crime are from southeastern Indiana.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that the students involved in the attempted robbery were students at Ivy Tech Community College Lawrenceburg. The students are actually students at another Ivy Tech campus in western Indiana. A corrected version of the story appears below.

(Broward County, Fl.) - A group of Hoosier men have a spring break story to tell for a lifetime.

Alex and Aric Wisbey and two others were in Florida to celebrate a birthday, but instead were nearly victims of an armed robbery.

After a fun night out on South Beach, the group stopped for gas in Broward County early Sunday morning. It was there that an unidentified, maked man pointed a gun at the group and demanded money, reports Local 10-WPLG.

Aric Wisbey, a student at Ivy Tech Community College in western Indiana described the situation, stating that “instinct kicked in” as the group tackled the gunman to the ground and eventually ended up with the firearm themselves.

An accomplice to the attempted crime, Kevin Campbell, 33, quickly jumped into the fray, but he and the masked man were eventually chased off.

Alex Wisbey told reporters that he never second-guessed going after the gunman, but cautioned others to comply with criminal’s demands if your gut tells you to.

Local deputies said the gun used in the attempted robbery was loaded, and that the Indiana men were lucky to walk away from the situation unscathed.

Campbell was arrested shortly after the incident, but the masked man remains at-large as of Tuesday.
