US 50 Traffic Will Shift As Aurora-To-Dillsboro Construction Continues

INDOT says road crews will shift all U.S. 50 traffic to the normally westbound lanes starting September 25.

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Construction crews on U.S. 50 in Dearborn County are getting ready to switch lanes.

A $16.8 million “white top” project began earlier this year, putting both directions of U.S. 50 traffic into the lanes on the eastbound side of the roadway from Aurora out past Dillsboro.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says the contractor, Walsh Construction of Crown Point, has completed placement of a 4½-inch concrete overlay atop the existing asphalt base on the westbound lanes of U.S. 50.

Walsh Construction plans to switch all traffic to the newly resurfaced westbound lanes next Tuesday and Wednesday, September 25 and 26.

There is some measure of good news for the 13,490 motorists who travel that stretch of U.S. 50 each day. The plan is to have the asphalt and concrete patching in the eastbound lanes completed later this year so that the highway can be restored to the full four lanes during the winter months.

However, the project should resume next spring. At that time, all traffic between Dillsboro and Aurora will be routed to U.S. 50’s westbound lanes until the project is completed in late-July 2019.
