UPDATE: Victim Identified In Fatal West Harrison Weigh Station Crash

The accident took place Wednesday morning near the Indiana/Ohio state line.

Update published at 5:25 p.m.:

 

Indiana State Police have identified the victim of Wednesday morning’s semi crash along Interstate 74 in West Harrison.

James G. Bristol, 63, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, was killed after his Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer crashed through the West Harrison scale house.

Bristol was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police say his vehicle traveled off Interstate 74 and into the scale house for an unknown reason.

Information obtained by investigators indicated that a medical issue may have played a role in the crash.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors.

An autopsy is pending.

The scale house was empty at the time of the crash and no other injuries were reported.

 

Update published at 10:00 a.m.:

Indiana State Police have confirmed a fatality as result of the crash, and next of kin has been notified. 

No employees were in the building at the time and there were no other injuries.

The identity of the victim and cause of the accident has yet to be released.

(West Harrison, Ind.) – Indiana State Police are investigating a crash at the West Harrison weigh station.

The accident was reported early Wednesday morning along Interstate 74 westbound at the 171-mile marker.

According to ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, a semi-trailer left the roadway and crashed through the scale house at the West Harrison weigh station.

It is unknown at this time if anyone was injured in the crash.
