Original story published Thursday, August 13th, at 5:08 p.m.:

(Miami Township, Oh.) - Lawrenceburg Road will remain closed the rest of this week after a semi-tractor crashed and spilled hot tar across the road.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil reports that the single-vehicle accident happened on the 1800 block of Lawrenceburg Road near the entrance of Shawnee Lookout around 11:08 a.m.

Darrell Byer, 51, of Muncie, was traveling around a left-bound curve in the roadway when his vehicle struck a guardrail and exited the right side of the road. Byer was hauling over 5,000 gallons of hot tar. An estimated 2,000 gallons spilled across Lawrenceburg Road, causing the road to be closed in both directions.

Byer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Due to response efforts, the leak caused minimal environmental impact.

However, the 1800 block of Lawrenceburg Road will remain closed through Monday, August 17 while clean-up efforts and roadway repairs are conducted.

Police say speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.
