Up To $30K In Scholarship Money Available To Future Teachers

The Next Generation Hoosier Educator Scholarship was established in 2016 to help address a shortage of teachers in Indiana.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The state of Indiana is offering scholarships for current high school seniors who want to pursue a degree in education.

State Representative Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) says it's crucial to invest in education.

“Teachers are foundation builders in foundation of our community. The Next Generation Hoosier Educator Scholarship is a continued investment in our teachers in the State of Indiana,” Behning says.

The application deadline for the Next Generation Hoosier Educator Scholarship is approaching on November 30, 2018. Interested students can apply to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education at scholartrack.in.gov.

The scholarship is for $7,500 per year for four years of college for those willing to teach in the state for at least five years after graduation.

“We have been encouraged by the talented pool of applicants we received the past couple of years and look forward to supporting students who are inspired by the teaching profession,” says Teresa Lubbers, Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education.

It's available to 200 students who plan to study education in an Indiana college or university, as well as college freshmen and sophomores. Applicants must be in the top 20-percent of their graduating class or scored in the top 20-percent of the SATs or ACTs.
