A large-scale mural will soon be created on the wall of Alejandra's Mexican Restaurant.

(Aurora, Ind.) - The United Way of Southeast Indiana, the city of Aurora, and Main Street Aurora are teaming up to sponsor a big splash of color to downtown Aurora.

Soon, regionally renowned artist Christian Dallas will begin a large-scale mural on the wall of Alejandra's Mexican Restaurant at the corner of Main and Second Streets.

The mural will highlight life in and around Aurora and Southeastern Indiana, using an original design. Featuring people from all walks of life, the mural captures the sense of community and neighborliness of the area, the rolling fields, local structures, and neighbors helping neighbors, carrying groceries, teaching, reading, building, and boxing goods for charity. As well, the mural will feature local flowers such as peonies, sunflowers, and daffodils, a red barn, and blue skies.

Dallas is expected to begin the project in mid-September with completion, hopefully, by late October or early November, weathering permitting. Dallas, a graduate of Northern Kentucky University, says he’s always aware that weather and “roadblocks” often alter the schedule of such large outdoor projects. United Way Director Karen Snyder commented,” We are thrilled to partner with Main Street Aurora and Christian to spread the word about the joys of living in our region and the United Way’s role in making life better for everyone.”

Main Street Aurora Director Nancy Turner added, “Main Street Aurora partnering with United Way Greater Cincinnati Southeast Indiana on the Main Street mural project synchronizes each organizations’ mission and vision and transformation strategy that focuses on family-friendly, family-serving, economy and the arts thus aligning the missions of both non-profit organizations.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled when the mural, funded by the city of Aurora, Main Street Aurora, and the United Way, is completed.
