(Boone County, Ky.) – The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says it has two teenage boys in custody who they believe are responsible for injuring a motorist by throwing a rock through his windshield.
William Wehner, 64, of Harrison, was seriously injured when a rock crashed through his windshield as he drove on Kentucky 237-North Bend Road near Country Club Lane late Saturday night. Wehner was hospitalized with facial injuries which will require surgeries, relatives said.
A second vehicle was also struck by a rock nearby that night.
Boone County authorities put out a call for information from the public following the incident. On Monday afternoon, two arrests were announced by Major Tom Scheben.
Two boys, ages 14 and 15, from Burlington are lodged at the Campbell Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Newport.
The 14-year-old is charged with Assault 1st degree and Criminal Mischief 2nd degree for his part in injuring Mr. Wehner and the damage to his vehicle.
The 15-year-old is charged with Complicity to Assault 1st degree for his involvement in the injury and Criminal Mischief 2nd degree for throwing the rock that caused damage to the vehicle in the first incident.
Scheben said the teens are students at the Boone County Alternative Center for Education (A.C.E.) School in Florence.
