(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Two Indianapolis men are jailed in Dearborn County on theft charges.

On October 4, Dearborn County Sheriff's deputies observed a maroon Dodge Neon traveling east on Interstate 74. Deputies say the vehicle traveled in the left lane for several miles, while no vehicles were in the right lane, prompting a traffic stop.

While conducting the stop, deputies say the vehicle ran off the roadway and into a ditch, and that two of the three occupants attempted to flee the vehicle.

The front seat passenger, James E. Burcham, 20, stayed in the vehicle. During the investigation, deputies learned that the vehicle was stolen out of Indianapolis. Another passenger of the vehicle, Joshua Davis, told police that Burcham had stolen the car and that they were headed to Franklin County so Burcham could appear in court.

Davis, 19, later recanted his story and said someone else stole the care and let them borrow it.

According to a police report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, four male subjects, whom were armed, stole the vehicle on October 3.

Burcham and Davis were taken into custody and charged with Theft (Value $750-$50,000), a level 6 felony. Both are currently being held on bond in the Dearborn Count Law Enforcement Center.
