Two Boone Co. Sheriff's Deputies Injured in Dixie Highway Crash

A Verona man was cited for DUI and Criminal Mischief.

(Boone County, Ky.) – Two Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were injured following a crash on Dixie Highway.

Deputy Jerald Wilmes and Deputy Clayton Dennison were responding to a call for service on Dixie Highway on Sunday around 12:38 a.m.

As their cruiser approached the intersection with Frogtown Road, a beige 2009 Chevy Impala, operated by Kenneth Turner, 77, of Verona, suddenly pulled out of a nearby parking lot into their path.

Deputy Wilmes, who was at the wheel of the cruiser, attempted but was unable to avoid a collision with the front end of Turner’s vehicle.

Both deputies sustained minor injuries and were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, where they were later released.

Turner also sustained minor injuries. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence and was later charged and cited for DUI 1st Offense and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.

The collision remains under investigation.
