Trump Urges Hoosiers To Vote Braun For U.S. Senate

The president said a vote for Mike Braun is a vote “to Make America Great Again.”

Indiana U.S. Senate candidate Mike Braun speaks as President Donald Trump looks on during a rally in Evansville, Indiana on Thursday, August 30.

(Evansville, Ind.) – President Donald Trump is urging Indiana voters to elect businessman and politician Mike Braun.

“If you want more jobs, more safety, and more opportunity, then you need to get your friends, get your family, get your co-workers and get out and vote Republican – and vote over here for a great gentleman named Mike Braun,” Trump told the crowd at Evansville’s Ford Center.

Trump held a rally in support of the Republican Indiana U.S. Senate candidate Thursday. Braun is challenging incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly on the statewide ballot this November.

The president again labeled the Democrat "Sleeping Joe".

The race may be one of the nation’s closest this fall. But in a state in which Trump won in 2016 by 19 percentage points over Hillary Clinton, the president’s support could be the difference maker.

Braun also took to the stage in Evansville. He said President Trump has always followed through on promises.

“The other thing you need to know is politicians too often say something but they never follow up on it. This man makes promises and keeps them,” Braun said.

Braun said he differs from Donnelly in that he will be a “a true ally” to the president, “not somebody that says something when you’re in Indiana and does something differently when you’re in D.C.” Donnelly did not support Trump's tax cuts and against the repeal of Obamacare.

As thousands gathered inside the Ford Center to see the president, hundreds of people protested outside. Chanting “Lock him up” and “Dump Trump”, the protestors held signs and opposed the president’s stance on immigration and the environment.
