Traffic Impacts Begin Friday on I-71 Southbound in Carroll County

This is due to an ongoing maintenance repair project.

(Carroll County, Ky.) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming traffic impacts on Interstate 71 in Carroll County beginning Friday, Sept. 19. These traffic impacts are associated with the ongoing maintenance repair project.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m., a single right lane closure will be in place on I-71 southbound from the Carroll/Gallatin County line (53.4 mile point) to the Carroll/Trimble County line (38.8 mile point), a distance of 14.6 miles. This lane closure will remain in place through Monday, Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. 

Motorists should seek alternate routes when possible to avoid potential delays. Please drive carefully through the work zone as crews and equipment may be entering/exiting throughout the project area.

Project Background

A maintenance repair project on I-71 in Carroll County began on Friday, Aug. 8. This project is a large-scale patching effort – similar to the project completed in 2023 – but covering a much larger portion of I-71 this time.

Operations will be limited to the mainline interstate. Shoulders and on/off ramps will not be included in this project.

The majority of this work on this project is taking place between the working hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. to mitigate traffic disruptions during peak travel periods.

Additional traffic impacts will be shared through our District 6 Roadshow and social media channels as the project progresses. 

A reduced speed limit of 55 MPH will be enforced throughout the work zone, with law enforcement on-site to ensure compliance.

Louisville Paving Company Inc. is contracted to perform the $4.6 million project on behalf of KYTC. The project has an expected completion date of Nov. 15, 2025.
