Three Local Lawmakers Assigned To House Standing Committees

House lawmakers will convene in the House Chamber for the first day of the 2019 legislative session on January 3.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Three local lawmakers have been selected to House standing committees.

House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) released the assignments for the 121st General Assembly on December 5.

State Rep. Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) is appointed to the House Ways and Means Committee, which will help craft the state budget for the next two years.

“The Ways and Means committee is paramount in crafting the state budget to fit the needs of the state for the next two years,” Ziemke said. “As a small-business owner, I look forward to lending my years of business management experience and continuing Indiana’s history of fiscal responsibility.”

Ziemke was also reappointed to the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee.

State Rep. Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison) was reappointed as vice chair of the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. Lyness will also serve House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee, the House Local Government Committee, and the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee.

“Making Indiana an attractive place for new businesses and supporting Hoosier workers continues to be a top priority,” Lyness said. “With the state’s unemployment rate the ninth lowest in the nation, Indiana remains in a great position for those looking for meaningful employment.”

State Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) will chair the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. He will also serve on the Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee and the Roads and Transportation Committee.

Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. House lawmakers will convene at 1.30 p.m. on January 3 in the House Chamber for the first day of the 2019 legislative session. Standing committee hearings can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov.
