Three KSP Troopers on Administrative Leave Following Incident in Warsaw

The Kentucky State Police Critical Response Team (CIRT) is continuing to investigate.

(Warsaw, Ky.) – The Kentucky State Police Critical Response Team (CIRT) is continuing to investigate a trooper-involved shooting in Gallatin County.

David Stubbs, of Warsaw, was shot by Kentucky State Police troopers during an incident on March 4.

According to Kentucky State Police, the troopers were responding to a 911 call about a subject brandishing a firearm near the intersection of Ambrose Road and Bischoff Road.

Upon arrival, troopers observed a male object, later identified as Stubbs, standing in an open doorway of the residence. Stubbs allegedly advanced towards the troopers while handling a shotgun. At that time, Trooper Colt McGuire, Trooper Hayden Kilbourne and Sergeant Jim Phelps fired their agency-issued weapons, striking Stubbs.

According to CIRT investigators, Stubbs discharged his shotgun during the incident. Stubbs was airlifted from the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital on March 5 and charged with three counts of attempted murder of a police officer.

In accordance with KSP policies and procedures, all three troopers were placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is ongoing.
