Students at Aurora Elementary School had a helping hand in creating the new playground.

(Aurora, Ind.) – A new playground will open this week in Aurora.
The City of Aurora and Main Street Aurora will host a special ribbon cutting ceremony at the playground at the Taylor Ball Fields on Friday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m.
Community members are invited to attend. The event will feature free comics provided to students by Kryto’s Comix and a free ice cream cone coupon provided to students by Plug’s Sweet Tooth.
In January 2019, Aurora Elementary School principal Mary Bailey met with then city manager Guinevere Emery and Main Street executive director Nancy Turner to discuss the potential of AES students partnering with the City through a STEM curriculum based project.
During the talks, Emery suggested that students be involved in a hands-on and minds-on lesson in research, design and implementation of a proposed playground replacement at the Taylor Ball Fields.
Fast-forward to 2020 and the playground is ready to be unveiled.
The project was made possible through a donations from the Dearborn County Community Foundation and Rising Sun Regional Foundation, in addition to the work of the Aurora Elementary Class of 2028.
