(Switzerland County, Ind.) – Thanks to a generous grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, the Switzerland County Emergency Management Agency has purchased lifesaving equipment.

Switzerland County EMA used a $7,500 grant to purchase an advanced sonar underwater scanning system unit, called the AquaEye.

The equipment is used for search, rescue and recovery of victims from water.

The AquaEye is intended for use in identifying human bodies underwater using ultrasound and artificial intelligent technologies.

According to Switzerland County EMA, the lightweight, portable system will scan open water areas up to 50 meters. The display allows responders to locate and respond to drowning victims.

AquaEye can also be used in ice rescue events.

The AquaEye device will be used by the Water Rescue Team and the fire departments here in Switzerland County.
