Super Bowl Brings Millions To Indy

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Super Bowl XLVI has left behind an estimated $155 million in economic impact on central Indiana.

Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association spokesman Chris Gahl says the ICVA is already talking to other organizations about hosting events.

“We feel very confident that, at a minimum, the Super Bowl will have generated $155 million in economic impact over a four day period,” Gahl said.

Gahl said they're not done crunching all the numbers yet, but the estimated impact is likely to go up.

Not only was the Super Bowl undertaking profitable, it was widely regarded as a success.

Host Committee Chairman Mark Miles commended everyone who worked to make the event what it was for the city and region.

“I think we can really say there were two winners of Super Bowl XLVI. I think both the Giants and Indianapolis came out on top,” Miles said.

Super Bowl Host Committee CEO Allison Melangton used a baseball term in calling the Super Bowl a "grand slam" for the city, saying they had great crowds through the duration of the two weeks the NFL carnival was in town.

More than 10,000 people rode the downtown zip line, while another 265,000 went to the NFL Experience - a new record.

The Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee says the soonest the big game could come back to Indy is 2017. The state capitol could have been pitched again for the 2016 game, but the city and Lucas Oil Stadium already have a commitment to host the NCAA women’s basketball Final Four that Spring.
