Sunman-Dearborn Schools Announces Upcoming Facility Upgrades

Most of the work will be mechanical with the exception of the performing arts center and football field entrance.

(St. Leon, Ind.) - More building improvements are coming to Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools. 

The school corporation announced a string of building envelope and mechanical improvements that will be completed at East Central High School, Bright Elementary School, North Dearborn Elementary School, and Sunman Elementary School. 

East Central High School

  • All thirty-eight (38) roof-top units will be replaced, and three (3) new boilers will be installed to ensure efficient heating and cooling throughout the building.

Bright Elementary School

  • Will receive all new windows, replacement of the flat portion of the roof, and new air handling units to improve energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

North Dearborn Elementary School

  • New boilers and outdoor condensing units will be installed to enhance the building’s overall climate control and efficiency.

Sunman Elementary School

  • Thirty (30) new classroom unit ventilators will be installed, along with new boilers and the replacement of three (3) sets of exterior doors, ensuring a more comfortable and secure environment for students and staff.

All of these buildings will also receive new heating and cooling controls to allow for improved efficiency, helping us manage energy usage and maintain consistent comfort throughout the schools.

Other upcoming improvements include a complete renovation of the East Central High School Performing Arts Center and upgrades to the ticket booth, concession and restrooms on the home side at Trojan Field. 

The Performing Arts Center project will include new carpet, seats, aisle lighting, house lights, stage lights, stage flooring and more. Renovations are expected to start soon and will be completed in phases. The whole project is scheduled to be completed by summer of 2026. 

Construction at Trojan Field is expected to begin in late fall of 2025 and completed by the summer of 2026.
