(Aurora, Ind.) - The City of Aurora’s big Christmas tree has been selected from the front yard of a Sunman couple.

The 25-foot-tall Colorado blue spruce was cut from the yard of Sunman residents David and Michelle Hoff.

“It is an honor and privilege to provide the Christmas tree to the City of Aurora,” said David.

The tree is placed in the middle of the intersection of Second and Main streets. City crews upright the tree by sticking its trunk down into a manhole. Motorists navigate around it in a counter-clockwise fashion.

Aurora’s downtown Christmas tree has been a tradition since 1984 when the late businessman Ray Schuck came up with the idea. Schuck owned and operated a plumbing business in a building – which is still adorned with his family’s last name – at the corner of Second and Main.

The Hoffs have opened a new business this season: Hoff Christmas Trees. It will open for your live Christmas tree harvesting each Friday through Sunday, starting the weekend after Thanksgiving.
