The center now has two new tomosynthesis mammography units.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The St. Elizabeth Dearborn Breast Center welcomes patients to experience its newly upgraded facilities, including extensive renovations to both its lobby and imaging areas.

Key among these improvements, the center now has two new tomosynthesis mammography units, also known as 3D mammography. This state-of-the-art, digital X-ray process creates a three-dimensional image of the breast. As a result, the new 3D mammography units provide a more detailed, comprehensive view of the breast than what was possible from traditional, two-dimensional mammography.

“We are dedicated to providing our patients with the highest quality care. Our recent upgrade with two new 3D mammography units at Dearborn Breast Center allows us to deliver convenient, cutting-edge screening and diagnostic services to those we serve,” says Jaime Grund, MS, LGC, director of St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Precision Medicine & Breast Centers.

Because radiologists are staffed on site at the Dearborn Breast Center, patients receive their diagnostic mammography results promptly. The center also offers comprehensive breast ultrasound services for patients who may require additional or specialized diagnostic imaging and procedures beyond mammography.

Nearly 290,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women across the United States each year, according to the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer is much more treatable when caught in its earliest stages through annual mammograms or breast self-exams.

The American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging continue to recommend that women at average breast cancer risk begin screening at age 40 but have a risk assessment at age 30 to see if screening prior to age 40 is needed. Women should continue screening past age 74, unless severe comorbidities limit life expectancy.

“There’s no better time than now to schedule your mammogram – particularly if you’ve perhaps been putting it off due to the COVID-19 pandemic or other concerns,” says Terri Bogan, a nurse manager with St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Women’s Breast Centers. “Getting a mammogram is a quick and easy process, and you can leave feeling assured you’ve taken care of one of the most important steps in managing your overall health care as a woman.”

In addition to its Dearborn location, St. Elizabeth Breast Centers offer mammography services at six additional convenient locations throughout Northern Kentucky. Go to stelizabeth.com/medical-services/womens-health to learn more.

“By making continuous improvements to our services, such as those recently completed at our Dearborn Breast Center, we hope to make getting an annual mammogram at our facilities as comfortable and convenient as possible,” says Grund.
