(Harrison, Oh.) – Southwest Local School District students and staff raised thousands for a good cause on their Day of Service.

Students and teachers were encouraged to bring in spare change for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. When all the coins were counted, the donation totaled $25,092.13.

According to the school district, schools throughout the district participated in bake sales, penny wars, "chuck your change" in the carpool lane, extra recess incentives and more, but the highlight of the campaign were the "Teacher Dares" performed by staff members at Crosby Elementary, Harrison Junior School and Harrison High School.

Students took on some wacky dares, too, including dying their hair, eating bugs, and cracking eggs on their head to encourage donations. Even teachers did some crazy things such as men shaving their legs and women letting their students apply their makeup.

“We are grateful to the students, parents and community members who contributed to the cause,” the district said.
