(Aurora, Ind.) – After weeks of warming up their vocal chords, the South Dearborn High School Opening Knight Show Choir finally began their 2019 competition season Saturday.

“After two weeks of being snowed out, the SD Show Choir program had a big day this past Saturday,” says director Justin Selmeyer.

They did not disappoint at the Pendlelton Heights Arabian Spectacular Choir Competition. Opening Knight won two honors in the small school division by winning both the daytime and final Grand Champion crown. They were going up against much bigger schools such as New Castle and Columbus East for the title, says Selmeyer.

The group also received Best Vocals and Best Choreography.

Corben Slack was named Outstanding Performer.

The South Dearborn Middle School Showcase did very well, too. They swept the middle school division in winning Grand Champion, Best Vocals, and Best Choreography.

SDMS’s Madie Teke was named Outstanding Performer.

SDMS Showcase is now directed by Selmeyer after the retirement of former director Monte Dole.

The competition season for the choirs will continue on Saturday, February 9 at the Edgewood Contest of Champions near Bloomington, Indiana.
