SLSD Postpones In-Person Preschool, Offers At-Home Program

"We are deeply sorry that we are unable, at this time, to provide an excellent preschool experience for your child."

(Harrison, Oh.) - Due to an executive order issued by the Ohio Department of Health, there will be no Southwest Local School District (SLSD) preschool during the month of August. 

The executive order puts restrictions on preschools, only allowing 9 students in a class. The SLSD preschool will allow preschoolers back into the classroom once the order is lifted. 

Until then, at-home learning activities will be offered to support the curriculum that would be taught in the classroom. 

A letter to parents and guardians was issued to inform them of the changes:

"Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

With great regret, I must inform you that your preschool child will be unable to attend in person at Southwest Local School District’s preschool program starting in August.  This decision was made due to the executive order from the Ohio Department of Health stating that preschool classrooms may only have 9 students in each class.  If this executive order is lifted, the district will work quickly and swiftly to include other preschoolers back into the classroom. In the meantime and while the executive order is still in place, we would like to offer at-home learning activities with minimal monitoring by the district. These at-home learning activities will support curriculum that would normally be taking place in the preschool classroom. Students with disabilities will continue to be served as required by state law.

If the executive order is lifted, you will be contacted to see if you are still interested in attending Southwest Local School District’s preschool program.
