Sheriff: Man Suffered Fatal Head Injury When Bucked From Horse

A man died after he was thrown from a horse on a Ripley County farm over the Labor Day weekend.

(Ripley County, Ind.) - A man was killed when he was bucked off a horse at a Ripley County farm on Sunday, September 1.

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were called to a farm on the 6700 block of West Fairground Road at around 6:29 p.m.

John Gayheart had been bucked off of a horse and was unconscious as he had suffered head injuries. Ripley County EMS performed CPR, but Gayheart died at the scene.

Other agencies assisting included Osgood Police Department, Osgood Fire Department, Indiana State Police, and an off-duty Batesville Police Department officer.
