(Franklin County, Ind.) – A day after U.S. Marshals carried out a surprise check of registered sex offenders in Dearborn County, they did the same thing in Franklin County on Wednesday.

In Franklin County, 32 offenders were given a surprise check to be sure they were in compliance with registry laws. Four offenders are being investigated for possible non-compliance in registering with Franklin County’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry.

During the sweep, police arrested a man who was wanted out of Texas. Ross Allen Hunt, 30, of Brookville, was charges including Engaging in Organized Crime Activity and Theft. He is held in Franklin County awaiting extradition to Texas.

Surprise checks like this are not uncommon. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department says it conducts regular checks throughout the year.

“Information collected during the sweep will help keep Franklin County’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry up to date and as accurate as possible.  Citizens are encouraged to visit the Indiana Sheriff’s Association Sex and Violent Offender Registry by going to www.indianasheriffs.org/offender-watch.  This website allows citizens to search for the names and addresses of offenders in a specific area,” the sheriff’s office said.

Tips about offenders who may be out of compliance with the registry can contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at (765) 647-4138 to leave a tip.
