Sen. Leising Opposes Early Congressional Redistricting

A special session of the General Assembly has been scheduled for December.

INDIANAPOLIS - State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) says she "will vote no" on early congressional map changes.

The decision comes after hearing from hundreds of constituents in the past two months that are opposed to early congressional redistricting.

Governor Mike Braun has called for a special legislative session for the General Assembly to convene this December to consider altering the boundaries of Indiana’s congressional districts and to consider resolving an important issue regarding federal and state tax compliance that must be addressed.

In Indiana, Republicans currently hold a 7–2 advantage in the U.S. House delegation, but proponents are aiming for a 9-0 version.

The boundaries are typically adjusted every 10 years, using new census data.

"I would never vote yes on a bill that I did not know the contents of. I will be listening to my constituents and will vote no if there is a vote," said Leising.
