Second Indy Archdiocese Priest Accused Of Sexual Abuse

Rev. Patrick Doyle has ties to southeastern Indiana parishes.

Rev. Patrick Doyle

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - An Archdiocese of Indianapolis priest with ties to churches in the southeastern part of the state is suspended over sexual misconduct allegations.

Father Patrick Doyle is prohibited from public ministry as the Archdiocesan Review Board investigates a report of sexual misconduct which occurred “several decades ago.”

The archdiocese’s victim assistance coordinator received the report on Tuesday, September 4. The report was immediately made to the review board and civil authorities.

According to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Doyle started his service as an associate pastor at St. Mary-St. Michael Church in Madison and part-time instructor at Shawe Memorial Junior-Senior High School in 1975. In 1979, he went to Indianapolis to work at churches and schools in that region up to today.

Rev. Doyle was named the priest moderator at St. Maurice Church in Napoleon in 2010, a position he still holds. He has not been one of the sacramental ministers at the Ripley County parish.

The archdiocese has prohibited Doyle from all public ministry while the investigation is pending.

In as many weeks, the 68-year-old is the second Indianapolis priest to be suspended over actions that allegedly happened decades ago.  Accusations of sexual abuse of a child came out last week against Father John Maung, who has been a priest at parishes in Indianapolis, Connersville, and Shelbyville.
