SDCSC Survey Will Help Develop Plans To Return To School This Fall

Would you send your child to school without various social distancing protocols?

(St. Leon, Ind.) – Would you send your child to school without various social distancing protocols?

That’s one question the Sunman-Dearborn Community School Corporation is asking parents.

The Fall 2020 Return to School Parent Survey released Monday asks the following questions:

If Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools developed an optional online academy, staffed and supported by Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools personnel, would you enroll your child for the 2020-2021 school year?
If the following COVID-19 protocols are in place: health screenings at home for all students and staff (temperature check), cleaning/sanitizing protocols including periodic sanitizing of frequently touched areas, deep cleaning/sanitizing schools and buses each day, additional hand-washing opportunities throughout the day, AND relaxed/flexible attendance policies, but WITHOUT the various social distancing protocols (such as lunch in the classroom, assigned areas on the playground, desks 6 feet apart, etc.), would you send your child to school?

Parents that take the survey are required to answer yes or no. Answers may be explained in the comment section.

A previous survey, that is no longer accepting responses asked other hard hitting questions, such as:

- If only the following COVID-19 protocols are in place: health screenings for all students and staff (temperature check), cleaning/sanitizing protocols including periodic sanitizing of frequently touched areas, additional hand-washing opportunities throughout the day, and social distancing such as student desks up to 6 feet apart, lunch in classrooms, etc., would you send your child to school? *

- If students returned to school on an A/B rotation (as an example, 50% of students attend school on Monday/Wednesday, 50% attend school on Tuesday/Thursday, all students participate in e-learning on Friday), would you send your child to school? *

- If students returned to school with a hybrid learning approach (A hybrid learning approach would be a combination of traditional on-campus learning with various sanitizing and social distancing protocols and distance learning. It could also include an extended period of distance learning if there is a second COVID-19 peak.) would you send your child to school?

- If students returned to school in August with ONLY remote learning only for all students, would you send your child to school? *

- If students returned to school in August with ONLY remote learning only for all students, would you send your child to school?

- If bus routes operated at full capacity, would you send your child to school?

- Would you send your child to school if extra-curricular activities (Band, Choir, FCCLA, FFA, etc.) were suspended for the 2020-2021 school year?

- Would you send your child to school if athletics were suspended for the 2020-2021 school year?

- If a neighboring school district provided extra-curricular activities or athletics that Sunman-Dearborn was not providing, would you enroll your child in the neighboring school district?

As the school corporation receives additional guidance from the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana State Department of Health, the results from the surveys will be used to help develop plans to return to school in the fall.
