Schools Could Be Allowed To Teach Creationism

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - A bill has cleared an Indiana Senate committee which would allow public schools to teach creationism along with evolution.

Senate Bill 89 was authored by State Sen. Dennis Kruse. The Senate Education Committee voted 8-2 to send the bill to the full Senate.

The theory would be taught in science class by schools who decide to do it, and the legislation does not mandate is has to be part of the curriculum.

A Purdue University science education professor testified before the Senate Education Committee that allowing creationism to be taught is a violation of the constitution.
