The tax exemption on clothing and school supplies can save families a tidy sum.
(Undated) - It’s a good weekend to do some back to school shopping as Ohio's annual Sales Tax Holiday begins today.
The tax-free weekend was launched to help prop up businesses during the busy back-to-school season, while also giving families a break on a school shopping list that can add up quickly.
Starting at 12:00 a.m. Friday and continuing through midnight Sunday, the state is waiving the sales tax on a host of clothing items and school supplies.
The sales tax exemption applies only to items of clothing priced at $75 or less, school supplies at $20 or less, and instructional material at $20 or less.

Earlier this year, the Ohio lawmakers unanimously approved a bill that made the three-day sales tax holiday permanent. The legislature had previously approved temporary sales tax holidays for the past three years.
