If you have Caito pre-cut melons in your fridge, throw them out.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Indiana health officials are assisting with an investigation into a multi-state salmonella outbreak.
The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) say the outbreak has sickened 11 people in Indiana, and affected 49 others in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Michigan.
The salmonella is believed to be linked to pre-cut melons supplied by Caito Foods of Indianapolis. Last week, the company voluntarily recalled fresh-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fresh-cut mixed fruit.
The fruits were sold at Kroger, Walmart, Costco, Walgreens, Whole Foods and Jay C.
Consumers who purchased pre-cut, Caito melons from these stores should not eat the products and should throw them away or return them for a refund.
