Safe Place Sexual Assault Center Celebrates SAAM, Day Of Action

(Dearborn Co., Ind.) - Safe Place Sexual Assault Center is reminding everyone that “We’re Still Here.”

To recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) throughout the month of April, Safe Place is encouraging members of the community to show support for survivors while maintaining social distancing.

“While our community is coming together in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, let us be aware of the challenges that isolation can bring to those who have experienced sexual assault,” said Cari Kettman, Director of Community Based Services for Safe Place Sexual Assault Center. “We’re still here. From our Prevention Specialists educating our community members about the importance of respecting personal boundaries and asking for consent to our Case Managers and Response Team advocating for survivors and making sure they aren’t alone. Especially in recent weeks, it is evident that we have an incredible network of caring community partners. Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a time to focus our efforts in creating a wider culture of respect and support and we ask everyone to join in these efforts.”

By wearing teal, taking pictures, and posting #SAAM to social media, community members, whether working from home or in essential roles, can promote awareness around sexual violence prevention and the importance of consent, believing, and supporting survivors.
