A virtual presentation will take place later this month.

(Batesville, Ind.) - February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and the local domestic and sexual violence is in the community helping to spread awareness about teen dating violence. Prevention is a component of the mission of Safe Passage, the domestic and sexual violence support service provider that serves Dearborn, Ohio, Switzerland, Jefferson, Ripley and Franklin Counties. “We know it happens here, that it’s not just in big cities or metro schools. Consider: 1 in 3 teens will experience physical or sexual violence or both by their dating partner and that teens who are in an abusive relationship are 4 times more likely to be in a domestic violence relationship as an adult,” said Danielle Becker, Preventionist for Safe Passage.

This month, the Safe Passage prevention team is working in schools throughout the six county service area to bring teens a Teen Dating Violence Education. “We have adapted a virtual version to reach as many students as we can. We are displaying a wooden heart with healthy and unhealthy traits of a relationship throughout our High Schools,” Becker said. There will also be a Virtual Parents and Caregivers Teen Dating Violence Workshop on February 25 at 6pm. This will be an interactive discussion where parents and caregivers learn about warning signs, how to start the conversation and be prepared to discuss healthy vs. unhealthy relationships with your child. There is no fee and you can register via Facebook at SPgrowingassets or go to the website www.safepassageprevention.org for the link.
