Safe Passage Receives ICJI Grant to Further Enhance Victim Services

The grant funding will support Safe Passage's Safe Place program.

INDIANAPOLIS – A local non-profit organization has received a generous grant to enhance victim services.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) announced today that more than $2 million in grant funding has been awarded to 20 organizations across the state to support sexual assault victims.

Locally, Safe Passage, Inc. received $134,139.

“This funding is about making sure that survivors of sexual assault have meaningful access to services,” said Devon McDonald, ICJI Executive Director. “These grants will broaden Indiana’s support network and provide critical resources to those who need it the most.”

Safe Passage requested funding for their Safe Place program to help victims in their six-county service area. The Safe Place program includes operating a designated 24/7 Rape Crisis Line, as well as a newly launched iCarol text line.

The text line provides immediate crisis response, advocacy, case management and ongoing support to sexual assault victims.

Other services include filing protective orders, law enforcement reports, violent crime compensation claims, providing individual, group and peer healing and support programs for victims, and facilitating sexual assault survivor support groups.

Since its inception in 1997, Safe Passage has helped more than 14,000 victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
