(West Harrison, Ind.) - Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools are now surveying parents, teachers, and others online about going to a balanced calendar.
The school board is deciding whether to approve a balanced calendar for the 2012-13 school year, or not. The current proposal would have the first student day on August 6, 2012, a week-long fall break, Christmas break December 20 through January 3, a two-week spring break March 18 through 29, and final student day on May 22.
During their November meeting, the school board decided to survey the community on what calendar may work best.
The survey where the public can give their thoughts is available on the Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools website – www.sunmandearborn.k12.in.us. Users can click on the “Balanced Calendar” tab to access the survey which will be available until Monday, December 5.
Anyone without a computer who still wishes to take the survey can contact a school office or the corporation office at (812) 623-2291 to obtain a paper copy.
Results of the survey will be announced at the Thursday, December 15 regular monthly meeting of the Sunman-Dearborn school board. Public comment on the calendar will also be taken at that meeting.
The board has set their January 2012 meeting as the deadline on selecting a corporation calendar.
Lawrencebur, South Dearborn, and Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Schools, as well as the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles, have already chosen balanced calendars for the 2012-13 school year.
