(Northern Kentucky) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an overnight rolling roadblock scheduled for early Thursday, May 29, on sections of Interstate 71/75 and Interstate 275 in Boone and Kenton counties. Traffic will be temporarily slowed in several locations to allow for utility work.

Duke Energy is transferring overhead utility wires to newly installed poles, just north of the Burlington Pike (KY 18) overpass near mile point 181.62 in Florence. For safety, traffic must be cleared from beneath the wires during the transfer.

Four rolling roadblocks, each lasting approximately 15 minutes, will occur between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Traffic on affected segments of I-71/75 and I-275 will be slowed to allow the work to proceed safely. All work is expected to be completed before the morning commute begins.

Rolling roadblocks will begin at the following locations:

  • I-71/75 Northbound: Just south of Exit 178 to Mt. Zion Road (KY 536)
  • I-71/75 Southbound: Just south of Exit 186 to Buttermilk Pike (KY 371)
  • I-275 Eastbound: Just east of Exit 2 to Mineola Pike (KY 3076)
  • I-275 Westbound: Just west of Exit 82 to Turkeyfoot Road (1303) near the Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) overpass

In addition, temporary delays may occur on the following on/off ramps during the rolling roadblocks: Mt. Zion Road (KY 536), U.S. 42, Mall Road, Burlington Pike (KY 18), Commonwealth Avenue (KY 236), Buttermilk Pike (KY 371), U.S. 25, and Mineola Pike (KY 3076).

Law enforcement will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Motorists should expect delays, consider alternate routes, and avoid the area if possible, during the scheduled hours. Please adhere to posted signage, and do not pass crews blocking ramps during the rolling roadblock. Drive safely to keep our work zones and workers safe.

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
