The Roebling Suspension Bridge has reopened to vehicle traffic.

Covington Police had shut down the bridge on November 12 due to numerous violations of the bridge's weight limit.

(Covington, Ky.) – Another bridge that connects northern Kentucky to downtown Cincinnati has been shut down.

Hours after the Brent Spence Bridge shut down due to a fiery accident, Covington Police announced the closure of the Roebling Suspension Bridge.

“Due to numerous and continued violations of the bridge’s weight limits, the suspension bridge is closed until further notice,” Covington Police said in a statement.

Police added that the closure will ensure the safety of commuters and the integrity of the bridge.

The closure of both bridges has created a commuter nightmare. Traffic is being diverted from Interstate 71/75 to I-275 east to I-471 north.

According to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, the Brent Spence Bridge will be closed for a least a couple days, if not weeks, while inspection, cleanup and repairs are made.
