(Ripley County, Ind.) - Multiple agencies were dispatched to a house fire in Ripley County on Friday morning.
The fire broke out around 10:15 a.m. at a home in the 9000 South block of State Road 129.
According to the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, a single-story ranch structure had flames showing from the rear and significant heavy smoke. While the fire was knocked down relatively quickly the structure and contents suffered significant damage.
The residents were able to escape the fire without injury after being alerted by their smoke detectors. Unfortunately, one of the family's pets perished in the blaze. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation at this time and the Red Cross is assisting the family.
Assisting on scene was Ripley County EMS, Ripley County Sheriff's Department, REMC and INDOT.
"Be sure to check those smoke detectors, they save lives. Finally, keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as the work through this devastating loss," reads a statement from Friendship Fire.
