(Dearborn County, Ind.) - A candidate for Dearborn County Commissioner is dropping out of the race.

Jeff Hughes was uncontested in Tuesday’s Republican primary election. On Thursday, Dearborn County Republican Party chairman Jim Thatcher announced Hughes, of Dillsboro, will no longer be seeking election because he is moving out of the state.

“It was too late to remove Hughes’ name from the ballot when the party was notified that the family would be moving,” Thatcher said in a news release.

Now, the GOP is looking for a new candidate for commissioner in District 3, which includes the southern portion of Dearborn County.

Those interested in being considered for the Dearborn County Commissioner District 3 candidacy must file a Declaration of Candidacy form and financial statement form with the Dearborn County Clerk of Courts, with a copy to the party chairman.

The Declaration of Candidacy must be filed with the party chairman no later than 72 hours prior to the caucus. Thatcher said a date for the caucus to select Hughes’ replacement will be announced shortly.

Hughes had previously served as a county commissioner in District 1 from 2005 until 2012.
