(Cincinnati, Oh.) - First it was Wal-Mart, then Kroger.
Now, Remke bigg’s says it will no longer sell beef products which use the additive called “pink slime.” The antimicrobial substance is a concoction of ammonia-treated, finely textured lean beef.
“Remke bigg's will no longer be carrying any ground beef product which has been processed this way. While it’s important to remember there are no food safety concerns with products containing finely textured beef, this decision was made due to ongoing consumer concerns over these products,” company president Matthew Remke said in a statement.
Remke’s new policy begins effective March 30.
The grocery company says its current beef products in stores meets strict safety standards approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Remke bigg’s has 14 greater Cincinnati area locations, including Harrison, Hebron, and Florence.
